Things I love about rainy days

The things I love about rainy days:

opening my yellow umbrella in the dark

how every street, car, traffic, and neon light is doubled by it’s reflection on the wet street, resembling Christmas any time of the year

the smell of stone that on dry days I can’t smell without holding my nose right against it

the feeling of rain on my face, my hair getting drenched – life, nature washing the stale dust of lost opportunities from my soul

the soft empathy people show for those who are caught without protection under the sky’s down pour; an sympathetic look, an invitation for a spot under their umbrella, or a bonding line like ‘hope my rain coat is having a good time in the closet’

the intensity of nature’s colours; greens, reds, yellows, browns touched up by a brush stroke of clear

rain drop races on window panes

puddles sharing a different angle of view

how the sidewalks and hiking paths empty out leaving me to stand alone on the world’s stage – enjoying the spot light without a human audience at least for a little while.

The circles drawn by hundreds of invisible , tiny ballet dancers’s toes on clear water surfaces

  1. I love all of your nature-y, outdoors things, but I have one more. Coming in from the rain to a warm house gently lit by the cloudy outside and a few house lamps. For some odd reason, I love the lighting and warm feeling of my home during a dark, noisy storm.

I agree with you. My list could have indeed included your point too. Thanks for sharing.

  2. i love rainy days … i can feel the rain reading this gorgeous list .. xox

Thanks I am glad I could offer some ‘virtual rain’ 😉

  3. also, i love that you have a yellow umbrella 🙂 mine is green, not nearly as cheerful!

Have to admitt, I got a second umbrella (cause I keep forgetting mine at home or at the office). It isn’t yellow but still very, very colourful. And I’d love green too 🙂

  4. Coming from somewhere that doesn’t get much rain, I love the rain and find myself singing and dancing in the rain to that old Gene Kelly tune.

Hey Evyl, long time no see (purely my fault and loss). Me too, rainy days to trigger that tune while the raindrops drive the beat. Thanks for stopping by. Will have to see what you and Smoke are up too…..

  5. i love rain..it brings me all types of emotions whch i felt difficult to explain..each raindrops remember me of such wonderful memories..new emotions…i love to walk in rain

    Peace evry1!

  7. i love the pitter-patter of raindrops on my roof, like tiny childrens’ feet as they play above me. during a generous rain is also the best time to curl up in a comfy chair by the window and a softly lit lsmp with a good book. i can read anywhere, books do that, but there’s nothing like allowing a book to sweep you away on a rainy day. thanks for your list. and to think that everyone else in my family thinks i’m crazy for prefering a storm to a sunny day 🙂
