Baby doves! (Update)

 (Link to previous post: )

I have been rather worried with the unusually cold, windy and snowy weather the last week, however both Mum and Dad doves seemed to be doing ok.

Yesterday I came home and spotted a the head of one of the baby doves poking up from underneath the mother! It must have hatched days ago because it’s fully feathered and is the size of  a small fist already. Never noticed anything although I checked every day. Not sure what is going on with the second one, whether number one is an ‘early bird special’, whether number 2 is hiding under the mother still or if it didn’t make it.

Took some more pictures, although realised that I need another lens for my camera, the telephoto is too big and the other two too small to get that perfect shot. It will have to do. Either way, it’s a perfect gift for a perfectly blue sky, warm and sunny Friday.

Happy Friday everyone!

  1. Aw, how cute. I wonder if they are going to take up permanent residence on your patio. That would be kind of neat. Have a great Friday, Spaz.

Hey WC, yes, I’ll will definately leave the planter hanging for next year. I don’t think they’ll hang around forever, the baby will have lots of exploring and learning to do.

  2. how absolutely adorable ~ have a wonderful weekend 🙂

Hey there, thanks and since i am late for last weekend, I wish you a wonderful next weekend 😉 . By the way, it seems that one bird didn’t make it, as there is definately only one. Can’t believe how fast it grew just this week, it’s almost as big as the parents and is trapsing around in the planter. It likes to sit on the edge and I am sure the first flying lesson isn’t far off. Will miss the whole family but my planter will be back for next spring. Love having them around.
