Another kind of Silent Night

Can you hear it?
Through the darkness –
can you hear it?
In-between the dim lights
travelling through the night
a hint of a melody –
a hint of a song –
can you hear it? –
It’s the voices of children singing!
There it is again –
It’s Silent Night! Yes,
Silent Night!
Just keep listening
fellow soldier,
and we will be home soon.

I wrote above after listening to currently stationed soldiers abroad, talking about their Christmas and sending greetings back home to their loved ones through the radio. Further I have also gotten to know people who have one or more of their own family members serving away from home. I don’t really have an explanation why, but this is my first Christmas that soldiers have been part of my Holiday thoughts. For once it isn’t so much about being for or against war but about the sacrifices that someone’s mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughters is willing to make for what they believe will make this world a better place.

One Response to “Another kind of Silent Night”

  1. … was just thinking of John…
yes, what a … weird thing to go acting in a war, fight, fight with the own life, for a country, an idea of a president, queen, …
and the ones who have to join it. May love be strong in their heart, their soul be blessed when it happens to be time … time to leave…

    hm, another soldier I ‘know’…… thanks for your thoughts…… as always… 🙂 .
